Even though Dhaka is seen as a crammed and noisy city, most of the people living in it are held back by the warmth of this very place. I was born in Dhaka and have spent my whole life living in this chaotic city, to find beauty and tranquility here has been one of the greatest blessings of this journey. Despite the staggering population and scorching heat waves, life in Dhaka can be pretty enjoyable. According to an editorial by daily star; eighty percent of the jobs of the country are concentrated in Dhaka, resulting in more and more people migrating to Dhaka for a better life. Many people would see this to be exasperating or even an issue. On the other hand, another crowd involving myself, see the silver lining to this. The mass of people moving to Dhaka make amazing doctors to treat more people, electricians to help spread more usage of power, architects to build unique infrastructures and rickshawpullers, street food hawkers and numerous more to improve the quality of life in Dhaka.
I always find
myself looking for affordable refreshment options in these tiring school days
in the afternoon, while most of the restaurants and cafes are neither catered
to nor budget friendly for school going children, the street food hawkers
always offer a good alternative. Instead of being demotivated for not being
able to afford the luxurious lifestyle of northern Dhaka, if more people focused
on finding hidden gems like these that specifically cater to them, life
anywhere here would be of much bliss. My go to refreshment stalls are the
fuchka stall in Satmasjid Road, the fresh fruit juice shop in dolphin goli of Kalabagan
and of course Cha & Chill.
Amidst all the
chaos, if you seek serenity and silence, then the built-in parks of Dhaka are
just the spot for you. Shahabuddin Park of Gulshan, Dhanmondi lake and Ramna Park
hug you with fresh chill breeze and the smell of earth just as you set foot in
them. My current leisure activity in Dhanmondi is to float around in the lake
boats. As silly as it sounds, it is as relaxing to declutter your mind after a
long week of being jam packed in workload.
However, ignoring the growing concerns about the future life in Dhaka is not possible but it is only fair that we as people can find gold in mud to make our lives worth waking up to every morning.
