The Ultimate Momo recipe with Desi Ingredients (Zannat’s Recipe)

As we live in a global village, our taste buds are accepting different cuisines from different cultures. In our country, we can see that momos and dumplings are one of  the most viral food items and favorite of all as it is full of flavors and fun to taste. It has become   a common item in every South-Asian  style restaurant. Momos are mainly Nepali / Tibetan food . Also, China, Japan , and South Korea have their own version of momos (sometimes, it is also known as dumpling ).


As it belongs to a different cuisine ,  we don't have all the ingredients and items available in our country.  But  I have researched on  this particular food and found similar ingredients and items that are easily available in our household. Thus,   I can say that  I may not be able to make the authentic momo, but  my recipe definitely takes  momos to another level. For example , in Bangladesh, Bamboo steamers are not always available and electric momo machines cost a lot of money.So, I make momos on my aluminum strainer and pot. Sometimes, I make easy pan fried momos.


Every country has their different momos and dumplings recipes, such as  Jhol Momo , soup dumplings, chili oil momos, fried momos, veggie momos, protein momos and so on . But my goal of cooking is to make fast food items more healthy and  budget friendly. So , I make a healthy momo filling that gives you a proper meal .


  Growing up in a typical upper middle class Bengali family, my mother dislikes ordering restaurant food as they are not healthy. So, I used to experiment with different kinds of food  recipes from different cuisines since I was a little girl from primary school. I still remember,  I used to sat In front of my television and watch cooking shows     food safari   , eat street tv show on Fox life TV channel for hours. Thus , cooking has become my favorite hobby and passion. Additionally, My youngest brother has been the number one fan of my cooking since day one and he inspired me a lot to  gain cooking skills. For him, I always focus on making healthy , easy, and quick meals that give him proper nutritions .


  Furthermore ,You may think that momo is a very time consuming  and hard recipe. But trust me , technically it is one of the easiest and quick recipes if you start  preparing the ingredients in your free time. I make my momo wraps  and sauces every weekend and store it.


Lastly, I hope that this recipe will help you to experience one of the most flavourful momos that is healthy, budget friendly and very easy to make at home. You can also serve this to your guests on occasions. Enjoy these tasty momos, whether you make them from scratch or with store-bought wrappers, whether they are in perfect shape or not .They're sure to become a favorite comfort food that you'll love for a long time!

Zannat’s easy momo recipe :

#Ingredients: (for the filling)

½ cup finely minced onion

• 1 ½ cup finely shredded white cabba

•1 Tbsp of finely minced garlic

• 1 Tbsp of finely minced ginger

•1 ½ Tbsp r salt

•.Hot oil

•Pepper

Green chilli

•Red chilli

•Sugar (you can also use honey)

•2 Tbsp ground cumin

•1 Tbsp ground coriander

•1 ½ lbs of ground meat (chicken, beef ,mutton)

N.B : you can use cheese , paneer , mushroom, tofu.

# For the filling

Mix all the ingredients properly.Then put the extremely hot oil into the bowl and mix it well.


Then take a quarter spoon of the filling and put it into the square wrap. Then , brush some water on the edge of the wrap and seal it properly. Thus , you can make a perfect dumpling.


Now, take some water into the pot and set the aluminum strainer on the top of it .


When the water comes to the boiling point, put your momos on the strainer and put a lid on the strainer. After 6-7 minutes in medium heat , you can have the perfectly cooked momos.

#For dough :

To make the dough, mix together:

All-purpose flour (maida),Salt,Lukewarm water,


Directions:

Mix all the ingredients and make a soft dough and then roll it with a roller or pasta machine to make thin sheets. Then cut it in Square or circle shapes. Make sure that the wrap is not so thin or not so thick.


# For the pan fried momos :

Brush a very little amount of oil in your hot pan, then put your momos in it. Then after one minute, put some water in it and put the lid on the pan. After 5-6 minutes.You can have a crispy crust while soft and warm inside perfectly cooked momos.

#Dipping sauce :

ingredients:

•Soy sauce

•Chilli sauce

•Oyster sauce

•Green chilli

•Chopped garlic

•Honey

•Pepper

•Ginger

•Water

•Chilli flakes

•Chopped mint and coriander

Directions:

put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix them well .

N.B:

you can use only vegetables as filling,

You can use mushroom , tofu

if you're vegan

Put the ingredients as per your taste .
