Cricket is known as a gentleman’s game. But this gentleman’s game is not always about the players who put their mind-blowing performance on the field. There are many unknown and unsung heroes who work relentlessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of a cricket match. The batters and bowlers are the highlight on the field, but there is a whole team to make a game of cricket successful. For instance, the ground staff, umpires, coaches and organizers who all play a part in this game.

One of these unsung heroes is the ground staff. They prepare, condition, and maintain the main squares, landscapes, and pitch of a cricket ground. Additionally, they apply fertilizers, chemicals, irrigation, and drainage, rolling and mowing, and weed control in the cricket outfield. They work under challenging weather conditions to make sure that the game of cricket is played on a proper cricketing ground. They are always there to show their ability in their work, hardly seeking any spotlight. They play a key role in every successful cricket match.

Moreover, umpires and match officials are another group of these unsung heroes who deserve some recognition. Their job is to make some vital decisions under intense pressure. Their ability to make instant judgement keeps the fairness of a cricket match. Often, they have to face immense criticism by the spectators for their decisions. Despite the difficulties they face, umpires stay active to run matches with honesty and professional standards to make sure that the gentleman’s game keeps its integrity.

Furthermore, the coaches and support staff play a key role in the player’s performance enhancement and strategy implementation. The players bring home the victory, but it is the coaches and support staff who work relentlessly in the background. They help the players to use their talents to their full potential. Their ability and hard work significantly develop the skill of the players, which eventually makes a cricket team successful.

Not to mention, there is a team of administrators and organizers behind every successful game who ensures that all the practical operations are taken care of. They schedule matches, manage the sale of tickets and coordinate broadcasting arrangements. But most of the time their efforts go unseen. However, without their efforts, planning and execution, the enjoyment of cricket would not be possible.

In addition to the groups mentioned above, there are other heroes who gives their best from their respective fields to the cricket. These include broadcasters, journalists, physiotherapists, medical emergency units. Each of them plays a significant role in the game of cricket.

As cricket enthusiasts, it is our duty to give these unsung heroes their recognition, which they deserve. Their contribution may or may not be seen on the field always, without their help cricket could not have thrived at its finest as a sport and enjoyed all over the world.
